Computers:

I am one of a dwindling number of Acorn enthusiasts and still believe very strongly that Acorn Computers are better in many respects than PCs (like the one I am composing this page on!). I think that the RISCOS operating system wins hands down over Windows (3.xx / 95 / 98) in terms of friendliness, ease of use and elegance, being simple to use whilst at the same time maintaining a high level of both functionality and reliability (it rarely breaks down like Windoze does). I also find that the quality of software, for educational purposes at least, is very high.

However, as part of my job I was for nearly 3 years, the possessor of a Toshiba Laptop, which I got through the Portables for Teachers project. I spent a lot of time and energy learning how to use it (originally producing my web pages on it). Having moved jobs I had to give the "lappy" back to my old school and I now have a slightly faster machine on my desk at home, which I use for most of my work. I send greetings to any Bectans (members of the email conference originally set up to support the Portables98 project) who may happen by...

Having learned a lot about PCs over the past couple of years and already being quite well up on Acorns and being well qualified in educational computing I am a founder member of ICTeachers Ltd, a computer consultancy staffed by teachers, which aims to provide high quality inservice training and support for teachers. The company also offers a number of other services to education, such as web page building. The founder members of ICTeachers are all Bectans (That's how we met!). If you're a teacher or pupil or just have an interest in education why not visit our website by clicking on the link above. It not only has information about the company and the services we offer, but pages and pages of useful links for teachers (also lots for parents and kids) and collections of teaching resources which you can download. (Guess who manages the ICTeachers Resource Vault? Yes, Me!)
