This is the account of the machine developed in WW II to break the German Codes at the highest level - it was the first programmable computer - it was a gigantic machine with 1500 ther-mionic valves that could read data at the then unprecedented speed of 5000 characters a second. The author, the original Museum Director at Bletchley Park, explains how the codes were broken using this machine - he then went on to build a replica of Colossus.
