Madrid - The Spanish portrait - From El Greco to Picasso
       


   

The Prado Museum is organising a major exhibition on the Spanish portrait, with more than 80 paintings on display by many renown artist including Juan de Flandes, El Greco, Francisco Ribalta, José de Ribera, Zurbarán, Francisco de Goya, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Juan Gris, among others.

It is a chronological exhibition, allowing visitors to see the history of the portrait from its origins up to the first decades of the 20th century. It is a reflection on the history of the genre in Spain from different points of view. For this reason, according to aesthetic, chronological and typological criteria, the exhibition has been divided into various sections: “Origins”, “The court portrait”, “El Greco”, “Portrait and reality”, "Velázquez and Goya", “Goya and the contemporary portrait”, “The 19th century Spanish portrait”, “The portrait in the avant-garde
