Life History
Albert STIMPSON was born in 1861 at Southleigh Oxfordshire, being the eldest son of John James STIMPSON and Amelia HARRIS. Before Albert was aged 1 he moved with his parents to Netherton Fyfield and lived in the cottage at Stones farm through his early years (see fathers page for sale of cottage). Albert would have attended school in Fyfield and probably started working with his father on the farm once his education was finished. By the time of the 1881 census he was still living at Fyfield with his parents and working as an Agricultural Labourer
On 9-Oct-1882 Albert married Sarah Elizabeth FINCH / TOMBS at Fyfield church. Sarah was the illegitimate daug of Alice FINCH (1840) who later married Henry TOMBS. Sarah was originally from Ashbury Berks but was living in Fyfield with her parents in 1881 (listed as Sarah TOMBS).
When Albert was aged 25 (1886) his father died aged 51 at Fyfield.
In about 1887 Albert & Sarah moved to Tubney for a while and then back to Netherton.
In 1889 Albert's elder half sister Edith HARRIS / STIMPSON married Amos KING at Abingdon, and on Boxing day 1891 Albert's younger brother Shadrach married Elizabeth Emily GRAINGER at Fyfield church. Albert and Sarah probably moved to Kingston Bagpuize in about 1893 and lived there for a while. This was the year that a dramatic fire destroyed Fyfield church. Later Albert and Sarah moved to Shaw Swindon Wilts.
In 1899 Albert's first cousin once removed, Elizabeth Ann STIMPSON, commited suicide by poisoning at Frilford [see Thomas Stimpson (1823)], and in 1900 Sister Lily is charged with Wilful Murder & then Concealment of child at 28 Edward St Abingdon.
Albert and Sarah had 7 children and by 1901 they were living at 55 Hinton Street Swindon. They later lived at 231 Cricklade Road Swindon.
Albert was working as a Packer in a flour Mill at the time of the 1911 census.
In 1911 Albert's daughter Rose Florence STIMPSON married George Cooper BRIDGES and they lived in Meadowcroft Rd, Upper Stratton, Swindon.
In 1913 Albert's daughter, Amelia Alice STIMPSON, married Walter WHALE but Walter committed suicide in 1921. Amelia later remarried Victor Lamb.
Albert died in 1932 aged 71
Albert's Wife Sarah lived to the good age of 96 and died in 1958.
