Life History

Not too much information is currently known about William STIMPSON except for the information gained from the baptism entry of 12-Arp-1778 for his son James at Marcham. This suggests that the parents of James STYMPSON (1778) were William STYMPSON and Mary.

It is therefore assumed that this William STYMPSON was probably born before 1758 as he was most likely at least 20 when son James was born. It is also likely that he married Mary before 1778 but no records of his own baptism or marriage have yet been found in the Marcham registers.

There is a baptism record at South Moreton Berks on 16-Apr-1754 for a William Stimpson S/O JNO Stimpson & Martha. It is possible that this is the same William but further checking is required.

There is also a marriage record at South Moreton Berks on 29-Nov-1774 for William Simson (NO T & P) marrying Mary Alder. Again it is possible that this is the same William but further checking is still required.

There is also a strong possibility that this William is the one bap. 29-Sep-1734 at Marcham, as the son of Edward. He would therefore be the half brother of Richard STIMPSON (1752). That William was known to be married to Martha BROWNE in 1762 at West Hanney, and had 4 children up to 1774, all baptised at Marcham. It is possible that first wife Martha died between 1774 and 1778 and William remarried Mary and had son James STIMPSON (1778) from this second marriage.
Further checking required.

There is also a burial of Wm Stimson listed at Marcham on 5-Jan-1800. It is possible that this relates to the death of this William.
