International SMS Connectivity Summary Factsheet - 05/05/97

This compilation is an attempt to bring together data on the possibilities
for use of SMS internationally.  Since this information is changing all the time
it is very hard to ensure its accuracy, which relies entirely on input
from the Internet community.  It lists all the possible access media to and
from SMSCs plus information on interworking between GSM networks.

Notes:

In order to send an SMS message from mobile A to mobile B, a Service Centre
C must be used which can receive messages from mobile A whilst mobile A is
roaming on network D.  C must also be able to access the HLR of mobile B
and send to the network E where B is roaming.  This really needs a diagram
which I will produce when I get some time.

However, to find a connection, you need to select from the Service Centres
above under D) which can receive from the network you are logged on to.  
Having found a suitable Service Centre you need then to check whether that
can access the HLR of your correspondent under C) and access the network
where your correspondent is currently roaming under E).  This last step
is usually taken for granted, however for example a Telecom Finland
subscriber can normally be reached by Cellnet's SMSC but only if they are
not currently roaming on Vodafone.
