Chinese Woodwind Instruments

The Dizi

The most popular Chinese wind instrument is probably the 2000 year old di (Chinese transverse flute).  The Dizi is a bamboo flute that sounds just like a normal flute.

One of its fingerholes is covered with tissue membrane.  It can be classified into the qudi and the bangdi.  The former is mellow in tone and while the bangdi is much sharper.
