Major and Minor

Focus

Within this unit you will develop an awareness of the difference between major an dminor and learn to write scales using tones and semitiones.  You will perform and compose music in both major and minor keys.

You learn to

Identify the difference between major and minor

Use tones and semitones to write scales

Perform music in both a major and a minor key 

Compose using minor and major

Understand opera and recognise voices

You will learn about

Major and minor scales

Semitones and tones and the patterns for writing scales

Opera and operetta, specifically looking at Carmen

Different musical styles and genres

Your work will show

Knowledge of SATB voices in opera

An understanding of what opera is

Good listening skills and understanding of the elements of music

The ability to work well on your own and with others

The ability to compose using major and minor

A written record of listening tasks

Well researched and written homework in your own words
