February 1999

Lyme Regis, on the borders of the Counties of Devon and Dorset, holds a fascination for some, strengthened perhaps by "The French Lieutenant's Woman", the novel by John Fowldes, made into a film starring Meryl Streep and Jeremy Irons. So it was, one dry but cool February afternoon, that I found myself on the end of the Cobb, staring into a camera for a photo slightly less dramatic than that of Meryl Streep dressed as the French Lieutenant's Woman.
