Mr Thompson goes to San Francisco!
Updated: 19 September, 2005
"I left my heart in San Francisco" - those immortal words probably reflect many a person who has visited San Francisco - what a vibrant and exciting city it is. This page was constructed while I was in San Francisco.

On Powell Street at the junction of Sutter Street looking South

Probably the epitome of San Francisco is the cable car - here is one climbing up from Union Square on its way north.

The gate to China Town

Contrasts of culture between Snoopy et al and China Town, or are they?

The old and the modern, side by side.

A somewhat unusual view of the Golden Gate Bridge, taken in thick fog

The military graveyard at the Presidio not far from the Golden Gate Bridge

The Castro Cinema right in the middle of the Castro District - this cinema is a major landmark in the area. At the time it was showing the Wizard of Oz with a new digital soundtrack

Buena Vista Park, between the Castro and the Haight/Ashbury Districts

The junction of Haight and Ashbury, the centre of "flower power" during the 1960s?

The San Francisco Civic Centre, formally re-opened on 5 January 1999 after repairs caused by the 1989 earthquake

The dome has recently been guilded and glitters in the sunshine.

On Ocean Beach, near the Golden Gate Park

The Golden Gate Bridge from the Presidio - without the fog!

On Market Street, towards evening........
This is just a small selection of the photographs taken during my visit to San Francisco.
All of the photographs on this page were taken with a Kodak DC120 digital camera
