June 1999

As part of my business, my wife and I spent a week in San Antonio, Texas. at an engineering Conference organised by the Society of American Value Engineers (SAVE).

These were some of the sights we saw in San Antonio, staying in a hotel only one or two blocks away from the Alamo. So on our first morning, we had to visit it, taking in the Imax film on the way.

San Antonio at night - a truly vibrating city

It is difficult to imagine what the San Antonio river used to be like - now it is built like a canal with very slow running water. Boats carrying tourists travel along it at frequent intervals.

After a few days, we hired a car and left San Antonio for  Austin and Dallas, taking in the Texas hills along the way. Was this the wild west?

It was hot, so we took refreshments!

Along the way, we stopped to admire the view.

And then we arrived at the Buchanan dam....

We travelled on to Dallas....

Just outside Dallas, you must visit South Fork, the home of JR Ewing....
