| A Serious Man | |

This figure was done by John Musa in 1982, in Kumba, about a year after John returned from Switzerland. It depicts a serious man, probably a white man as can be seen from the hair. John used soil and cement. First, he made the mixture, put it in a mold and let it solidify for about two days. While still not completely hard, John carved the figure and left it to harden. He then sandpapered and polished it. When John died in 1996, I again worked on the object, concentrating on the lower section. I decorated it with cowrie shells and a metallic dust, using glue, which gave it a stone-like finish. It was a tribute to John. |
