This figure is from Nkambe, Donga Mantung and was carved in 1999. Miniature human figures of this nature are known as "kwiyumi" in Limbum which is spoken in Nkambe. It depicts an old man carrying on his left shoulder two calabashes of palmwine (known as leh-mruh in Limbum and kitem ke miluh in Lamnso) one in front and the other behind, supported with a bamboo pole which is known in Limbum as 'kintor mruh' and in Lamnso as kibung ke miluh'. On his right arm is a spear (known as nkon in Limbum and kong in lamnso) which he is using as a walking stick. The carver is unknown. The object was bought from Joe Wepnje, who is a Cameroon Baptist Convention (CBC) Health Board AIDS educator in Nkambe area. |
