This figure, a shibvem, was done by Pa in 1987 while in Nseh. It depicts a member of the "Mfu" holding his cup of wine and a cutlass slung under the left armpit, supported by a rope which passes across his right shoulder. The "Mfu" member wears a smile on his face and puts on a well decorated cap. Pa did this work upon retirement from the civil service. After leaving his native Nseh, at a very young age, he came back to settle in the village in September 1986. He was quick to settle down and very much enjoyed village life although at times things were not very easy for him. By the time he retired, he was Senior Divisional Officer (SDO) for neighbouring Donga Mantung Division. He was very simple, even as SDO, so when he came back home he felt very happy to be in the midst of his kinsmen once again. He participated fully in the social, cultural and economic life of Nseh. Unfortunately he did not stay for long in Nseh due to his appointment as the Municipal Administrator for the Kumbo Rural Council in October 1987. During this his very short stay in the village he did so many works especially masks. He also developed the style with multiple faces or figures. |
