Nseh Shibvem
Nseh Shibvem

This figure originates from Nseh, Bui division and was done by Shey Cashian Ndze. Human figures are known as "shibvem" in Nso'. The base is decorated with cowrie shells. The figure depicts an old man, probably an extended family lineage head referred to in Lamnso' as 'Shufai'. The figure holds a decorated walking stick known as 'ki toomi'. It portrays the typical Nso' style of dressing for men in the past with the chest bare and the lower part covered.. The figure is also carrying a bag as can be seen from the bag's strip which stretches across his right shoulder to his left armpit.
