Cook's Early Survey WorkCook stopped here on his
very first transatlantic voyage to Canada on the Pembroke in 1757. Bermuda has
not released any stamps showing Cook. They did however issue a stamp in 1977
showing the 1795 ship of the line HMS Resolution.
Cook's Early Survey WorkCook's spent the best part
of the period 1757 to 1766 surveying the west of Canada, mapping in the St.
Lawrence River, Quebec and Newfoundland. He also surveyed the islands of
Saint-Pierre and Miquelon before they were handed over to the French.
After discovering some of
the Hawaiian Islands during his third voyage, Cook visited Vancouver Island
without realising it was an island, and further explored the coast of what is
now called British Columbia. In those days, the area was referred to as New
Albion, following on from Drake's claim in the 16th century. With
him on the voyage as Midshipman was George Vancouver, who went on to lead his
own expedition to the Pacific and North America.
The Canadian Post Office
commemorated the bicentenary of the visit in 1978 with a pair of stamps. The
other stamps listed are linked to Cook in other ways.

In 1984 Nicaragua issued a miniature
sheet featuring Cook landing at Botany Bay (anon) for the Ausipex 84 stamp
exhibition held in Australia.
On 31 May 1999, Nicaragua
produced a set of 4v, a sheetlet of 12 and two miniature sheets, featuring the
'Sailing Ships of the Golden Age of Seafaring'. This includes a painting of a
Resolution, but it is the 1667 ship and not Cook's one.

MiquelonIt was Cook, working under
the orders of William Pitt (the Elder), who surveyed the islands of
Saint-Pierre and Miquelon off the southern coast of Newfoundland in June, July
and August 1763, before they were handed over to France as part of the
settlement of the Treaty of Paris.
There is one stamp from
Saint-Pierre et Miquelon which features Cook's map, plus a couple of other
related issues.

Cook's Third VoyageCook first visited some of
the outlying Hawaiian Islands in January 1778. He then went on to survey the
West Coast of Canada, Alaska and then into the Arctic. It wasn't until he
returned in November 1778 that he visited the main island Owahee (Hawaii). It was
of course on Hawaii that Cook died in a dispute over a stolen boat.
In 1928 the United States
issued two overprinted definitives to commemorate the visit to Hawaii. In 1978
a pair of stamps was used to commemorate the bicentenary of both the visit to Hawaii
and also later in the year to Alaska.
One of NASA's space
shuttles is called the Endeavour after Cook's boat. The spacecraft was featured
on a $10.75 stamp in 1995.
