Antigua & Barbuda

Byron's Voyage

After passing St. Helena on the homeward leg of the voyage, the Tamar's rudder gave way. It was decided that the Tamar should head for Antigua where the dockyards would be able to repair it fully. Therefore on the 1st April 1766, the Dolphin and Tamar parted for the first time in the whole voyage.

Cook never visited the West Indies but stamps were produced to commemorate his death in 1979. Both the 1979 and 1996 sets were later overprinted for use on the island of Barbuda.

Antigua	02/07/1979	Death Bicentenary of Captain Cook 4v & M/S(1v) The Dance portrait of Cook is shown on the 25c stamp along with Cook's birthplace in Marton. The 50c stamp shows the Endeavour and the Dance portrait. The 90c stamp shows the marine chronometer, and the $3 stamp shows the landing at Botany Bay. The $2.50 miniature sheet shows the Resolution and Cook with the border showing Whitby harbour. This set and M/S were also released overprinted 'Barbuda' (01/08/1979).
Antigua & Barbuda	25/04/1996	Sailing Ships 18v & 2 x M/S(1v) This set was released as two sheetlets of six stamps either $1.20 or $1.50, and six ordinary sheet stamps, valued 15c, 25c, 45c, 75c, 75c & 90c. The same picture of the Resolution is shown on both the 15c stamp and one of the $1.50 stamps. There are also two miniature sheets but they are nothing to do with Cook. This set was also released overprinted 'Barbuda Mail' (03/11/1997). One of the $1.20 stamps shows HMS Royal George, which was mistakenly shown as the Resolution on a Cook Islands stamp from 1979.

Commonwealth of Dominica

Dominica was one of the IGPC countries that commemorated the death anniversary of Cook in 1979. This is the only time he has appeared on the stamps of this country.

Death Bicentenary of Captain Cook 4v & M/S(1v) The Dance portrait of Cook, his signature and HMS Endeavour is shown on the 10c stamp. HMS Resolution is shown on the 50c stamp. The 60c stamp shows HMS Discovery. The $2 stamp shows detail of Cook's chart of New Zealand. The $5 miniature sheet shows Captain Cook and signature.

Grenada & the Grenadines

The bicentenaries of the discovery of Hawaii and Cook's birth anniversary were the excuse for sets from both Grenada and the Grenadines in 1978. He was again featured on stamps commemorating the Columbus anniversary in 1991.

As part of the IGPC Millennium omnibus, Carriacou & Petite Martinique issued a sheetlet of 17 stamps devoted to Millennium of Sea Exploration, which includes one showing Cook. 'Grenada / Carriacou & Petite Martinique' is the new title for the Grenadines.

In 2001, Carriacou & Petite Martinique issued a large set of ships stamps including one which shows Cook and the Endeavour.

The $4 stamp in the miniature sheet shows the death of Cook.
Grenada Grenadines	13/12/1978	Bicentenary of Discovery of Hawaii and 250th Birth Anniversary of Captain Cook 4v & M/S(1v) The 18c stamp shows the Webber portrait of Cook and Kalaniopu (king of Hawaii), 1778. The 22c stamp shows Cook and native of Hawaii. The 50c value shows Cook and death scene, 14 February 1779. The $3 stamp shows Cook and offering ceremony. The $4 stamp in the miniature sheet shows the Resolution.
Grenada	29/04/1991	500th Anniversary of Columbus's Discovery of America (part 4) 8v & 2xM/S(1v) The $2 stamp from the set shows Cook's Endeavour, 1768-1771. This set was part of a 'History of Exploration' omnibus with Antigua, Dominica and other IGPC countries.
Grenada Grenadines	29/04/1991	500th Anniversary of Columbus's Discovery of America (part 4) 8v & 2xM/S(1v) The 50c stamp in the set shows HMS Resolution but appears to be dated 1768-1771 which are the dates for the Endeavour. This issue was part of an IGPC omnibus issue.
Grenada / Carriacou & Petite Martinique	Early 2000	Millennium of Exploration 17x1v A reverse of the Dance portrait of Cook is shown on the last 50c stamp in this sheet. He is also mentioned in the text on the border of this sheetlet. Part of IGPC omnibus.
Grenada / Carriacou & Petite Martinique	18/06/2001	Ships 3v, 3x6x1v, 2xM/S(1v) The Endeavour and Captain Cook are shown on one of the $1.25 stamps from one of the three sheetlets.

Nederlandse Antillen

The Caribbean islands of Curacao, Bonaire and Sint Maarten, which comprise the Netherlands Antilles, issued a stamp in 2003 featuring the 'Earl of Pembroke' Endeavour Replica.

Turks & Caicos Islands

After his expedition in the Swallow, Carteret was given command of the Endymion, which was used to protect convoys in the West Indies. This ship has been shown on a couple of Turks and Caicos issues.

Cook didn't ever visit the West Indies, but the Turks & Caicos Islands have produced a couple of stamps showing his ships, as part of the IGPC thematic issues.

Turks & Caicos Islands	15/04/1991	500^th Anniversary of Columbus's Discovery of America (part 4) 8v & 2xM/S(1v) Captain Cook in the Antarctic, 1772-1775, is shown on the $1.50 stamp in the set. This was part of a IGPC omnibus issue with other islands such as Antigua, Dominica, Grenada and Nevis.
