Tsukasa Hojo
|
Born on 5th March 1959 in Kita-Kyushu (Fukuoka prefecture)
His Life:
In 1978, Hojo wins the second place in the Tezuka drawing competition with Space Angel.
His Work:
- Cat's Eye: his first title starts in 1981 and continues through to 1984; it is adapted as an anime of the same name in 1983.
- City Hunter: 1983/5-1991, his longest running manga with 35 volumes published. Two short stories where published in '83 though the manga itself officialy started in '85.
City Hunter is, of course, also an anime which started in 1987 and sees a further 3 series in 1988, 1989 and 1991.
But there is more to Hojo than just a few animated titles:
- Third Teka 1981 1 volume
- Splash (1987-1989): very short romantic stories (around 2 pages)
- Tenshi no okurimono (1988)
- Taxi Driver (1990)
- Sakura no Hana Sakukoro (1992)
- Komorebi no moto de (1993) a delightful story in 3 volumes about a woman stuck in a young girl's body and can communicate with trees and plants. Continuation to a previous short story.
- Rash (1995) a story in 2 volumes. To visualise this manga, imagine Kaori as a doctor. See the Text Manga pages for a translated version
- Collection a 3 volume collection of Hojo's early work including: very early City Hunter stories, a story that was made into a City Hunter episode (the one with the little girl), Melody of Jenny (a very sad war story) and the previously mentionned Komorebi no moto de
- Family Compo (or F.Compo for short): the story of a young who goes to live with his mother's sibling after his parents' death. The only thing is ... this new family is actually a family of transvetites. (the story sounds wacky and rather ... well, crap ... but trust Hojo, it is dealt with in a fantastic manner and is one of the most outstanding and original pieces I have read)
