Akira Toriyama, one of the most fanous mangaka, was born next Aichi, a rural area.

1978 Wonder Island was his first manga, published in Weekly Shonen Jump.
1980 Dr Slump which is very quickly made as an anime (after a few chapters in fact). The TV series remains on the air for five years.
1984 Dragon Ball. The anime starts in 1986.
then comes Dragon Ball Z the anime starts in 1989 and is produced with the input of Toriyama.
1995 Toriyama is bored with Dragon Ball (after 11 years, who can blame him?) he stops his input but the series carries on.

Akira Toriyama now still writes manga, though less renowned. He has also created characters for video games (he was for instance involved in the concept for Dragon Quest)
