STORIES AND POEMS

I'm a TELLER not a writer - but even so here are a few examples of the sort of tales I love to tell. Click on the links below to view each page

WHY WE TELL STORIES - Trad. Re-invented by Gary Breinholt
Normally told as the story of Mythic Britain's changing spirituality (from a bardic viewpoint). Here presented as a poem.

WHICH MAKES A BARD - Trad. arranged Gary Breinholt
I haven't a clue what this means but I'm sure it's deep and meangingful. To someone.
I lie. I fully understand this tale and love telling it.

THE STORY OF HODEKIN - Gary Breinholt
My pride and joy - a tale inspired by (in fact 'visualised' with) the Greenwood Tarot by Chesca Potter.

THE TWELVE RIDDLES - Gary Breinholt
The King had set twelve riddles. Could Jack answer them?. A tale for Folklorists, Antiquarians and Pagans.
Everybody else will probably scratch their heads.

THE STORY OF SHEATH, SWORD, SPEAR & SHIELD - Trad? Re-invented by Gary Breinholt
Folk stories (or in this case folk songs) are often old versions of even older (forgottten) tales. There is much fun to be found in 'aging' these stories, taking them back to a more primitive root (check Analeptic Memory in the glossary). If this sounds like a quest to 're-remember' the oldest origins then it must stem from reading too much Holdstock!

THE COMING OF WINTER - Trad. (9th Century Irish)
REAL bardic poetry. Spoken by me.
