I am a Harper/Storyteller, specialising in ancient Irish harp tunes and Celtic/Old English folk tales, myths and legends.·
My harp is wire-strung and plucked with fingernails - an ancient technique dating back to the 9th Century and only recently revived.·
My large repertoire of harp tunes and harp lore is taken from various sources- mostly old and/or rare, e.g. The Bunting Collection (printed 1796-1840).·
Most of my Celtic tales incorporate these tunes played on the Harp, Tin Whistle or Flute.·
Most of my English tales, set in the greenwood, feature the heroes and spirits of our past.·
ALL of my tales resonate with magic, mystery and myth.
STORY-TELLING EVENTS
Whilst these tales are best told to an adult audience I also have experience of telling 'lighter' versions for children; notably at the Sherwood Forest Visitor's Centre and Nottingham's 'Tales of Robin Hood'. Here I regularly provide 'pre-banquet' entertainment in the grand bardic tradition - harping and storytelling as the guests arrive and as a prelude to the main event.
I am a resident 'teller at the 'Tall Tales at the Trip' storytelling club in Nottingham and I have performed at similar clubs in Derby, Leicester, Sheffield, Hebden Bridge; at the Society for Storytelling A.G.M. in London and the Axiom Art Centre, Cheltenham.
Recent, local, public performances include the 'What-A-Weekend' festival at Wollaton Park, the Ruddington Festival and events at the Sherwood Forest Visitor's Centre. Forthcoming appearances will be at Sherwood Forest Visitor's Centre, Rufford Country Park and Wollaton Park.
For many years I have been involved with Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann (Society of Traditional Irish Musicians) and as a harper I have performed with the Nottingham Branch at a number of community events such as The Riverside Festival, The Lord Mayor's Parade, Etc.
