St Pryvé - St Mesmin |
|
|||
|
St. Pryvé St. Mesmin is in a beautiful region of France, between the Loire and the Loiret rivers and bordering Orléans with its historical buildings, museums and Parc Floral. The commune lies in a conservation zone which protects the local architecture, countryside, woodlands and wild life. Many acres of the surrounding land are devoted to market gardening, and wine growing is an important local industry. The city of Orleans is always associated with Joan of Arc and her statue stands proudly in the centre, above ancient remains of the old city walls recently found during construction of an underground car park. During visits, our hosts have taken us to a Chateau housing a museum of perfume and on guided tours of Orleans and surrounding areas, including a bird sanctuary. As in Codsall & Bilbrook, the residents have formed numerous clubs and associations to cater for all interests and hobbies. Although only a small commune, St. Pryvé St. Mesmin has an excellent leisure centre, a large community hall and a new music facility. Best of all, the welcome is always warm and generous whenever we visit France.

St
Pryvé-St Mesmin is founded historically
on market gardening but is
now a commuter suburb of Orléans. The village is situated at the
confluence of the River Loiret with the Loire. The city of Orléans, the
birthplace of Jeanne D’Arc, is the regional capital and has a
population of about 250,000 and hence is similar in size to
Wolverhampton, the neighboruring city to Codsall and Bilbrook Orléans
is at the upper end of the Loire valley with its historic chateaux and
excellent wines. Our hosts
naturally take a great pride in their viticulture and miss no
opportunity to persuade their guests to
enjoy their products.
