Lesson 4. Interpreting and Concluding

National Curriculum: Programmes of Study for Sc1

In the context of Life Processes and living things, Materials and their properties and Physical Processes pupils should be taught about experimental and investigative methods.

Key Elements

(a) To present qualitative and quantitative data clearly

(b) To use graphs appropriate to the results obtained.

(c) To use a line of best fit.

(d) To use result to draw conclusions.

Objectives

Pupils should be able to:

(a) Produce bar charts or line-graphs.

(b) Interpret data.

(c) Draw conclusions that are consistent with the data.

Notes

The majority of pupils will be familiar with bar charts. Some Year 7 pupils will be less confident with line-graphs. Spreadsheet programs (e.g. Excel) can be used to produce both chart types.
