A Guide to Investigations

Write your ideas in the empty column

Predicting

  • What am I trying to find out?

  • What do I think will happen?

  • Why will this happen?

Planning

  • What am I going to change?
  • What must I keep the same?
  • What will I measure?
  • Is your plan safe?

Observing and Measuring

  • What equipment will I use?
  • How am I going to use the equipment?
  • How many readings am I going to take?
  • What will be a good range of readings?
  • How will I make my readings as accurate as possible?

Interpreting and Concluding

  • What will be the best way to record my results? A table?

  • Will I also produce a bar chart or a line graph from my readings?

  • What do I think my results will show me?

Evaluating

  • Would I change anything about my investigation if I could start again?
  • Could I do some more work on this investigation if there was time?

Use this table to record some of your ideas before the investigation. As you are working add any new ideas. When you have all your results look again at your ideas. You can then add some more comments. Remember 'evaluating' will come at the end. This can be hard but try and think carefully about this important area.
