My Carbon Dioxide
Before we go any further let's have
a look at what might happen over the next 100 years if global
temperatures keep rising.
In Britain
- Average temperature may rise between
1.6 and 2 degrees Celsius
- 15 to 20% less rain in the south
of England increasing the risk of drought.
- Animals and plants having to move
north as the south of England becomes warmer.
- Rising sea levels resulting in coastal
damage and flooding.
- Farmers will have to consider planting
crops more suited to the new climate.
- In the rest of the World
- The polar ice caps will start to
melt.
- Bangladesh and other low lying countries
could be flooded by storms and rising sea levels.
- Droughts in Africa could become
more serious.
- Poor farmers in underdeveloped countries would
find it difficult to adapt.
- Rapid climate change would result
in plants dying out. Food chains would be affected and animals
could also become extinct.
- These are just a few of the possible
consequences of climate change.
-
- Some of these changes, both in the
UK and around the world, may never happen quite the way we expect.
-
- Do you think that it is worth taking
the risk?
