WARRINGTON

Stephen Waldron, our new Branch Secretary in Warrington, sends this message:

I have recently taken over the role that Shirley Barnwell vacated this summer and I'd like to thank everyone that I have met so far on union business for their good wishes.

On a biographical note I have just completed 35 years teaching: over 7 years with L.B. Ealing, the remaining time with Cheshire/Warrington. I am based at Sir Thomas Boteler and can be contacted on 0161 941 4970. Your call will be diverted to my mobile or voice mail if I am not available. My e-mail address is swaldron@cheshire.atl.org.uk.

Also, I'd tike to introduce Gill Povey as our new Warrington ATL area Health & Safety Officer. Gill is the Learning Mentor at Sir Thomas Boteler and has extensive experience and qualifications in this subject. Health & Safety issues have broadened considerably over recent years to cover all aspects of staff welfare and wellbeing at work. We will be fully represented on the various WBC committees and play a full role in their inspection teams. Gill can be contacted at the school: 01925 636414 or e-mail: gpovey@boteler.org.uk.

Earlier this summer WBC published its Review of Secondary Provision and possible changes to the status of some schools. Speaking from personal experience of this type of change, I'd like to reassure all colleagues who may be involved in any of these changes that they will be fully supported and represented at Branch and Regional level in any generic or personal negotiations that may ensue. The situation at the moment is very 'fluid'.

ATL is involved in the negotiations concerning the restructuring of the Centrally Employed Teachers. If you have any queries or problems about this in Warrington ptease contact Stephen Waldron, who will be attending the forthcoming consultation meeting, or Jenny Greenwood.
