| The Bahá'is in Belfast are from various backgrounds
and nations, from Ireland, The United Kingdom, India, Iran and China.The
diversity of the Bahá'is in Belfast is a good indication of the
diversity of the Bahá'i community worldwide which has an enormous
cultural diversity, its teachings and writings have been translated into
hundreds of languages across all the continents of the world.
The Bahá'i Faith has no clergy, it's administration is taken
care of by elected bodies, known locally as Local Spiritual Assemblies,
there is one such Assembly in Belfast. The Local Spiritual Assembly of
Belfast is made up of nine Bahá'is who live in the area. There are
National Spiritual Assemblies which administrate and serve country area's
and there is a central global body known as the Universal House of Justice.
all of which are made up of nine Bahá'is. People serving on these
institutions are not seen as priests or a hierarchy they are seen as administrative
governing bodies and are elected by secret ballot in a democratic fashion.. |
