Activities Week
Of the fifty-two it’s the best week
For enjoyment and friends to meet
Leaving our toils and cares behind
And for a time forget we are blind
One to tweak a teetotaller’s beak
Actives week is not for the meek
A bunch of lads some with gray hair
It is a score of us gathered there
There’s never a run so full of fun
Walk the South Downs in the sun
Rock Climbing, ski on a dry slope
As jokes such laughter provoke
And to tall stories a hearty roar
A song sung with a stentorian lung
Most certainly sure of an encore
Sports day, neck with medals hung
Shooting, Golf, Captain of the team
Winner of them all it’s not a dream
The activity week at Ovendean Brighton Y2K. Included Rock-Climbing, Dry Slope skiing, Sailing, Sea fishing and a seventeen-mile hike over the South Downs. There was a Skittles night in a country pub and night out at the ‘Dogs’ (I won £40). For the sports day I was Captain of “Woody’s Wanders” I had the highest scores for Shooting and Golf and finished second in the Ten-Pin Bowling. My team-mate had the highest score in the Archery. We won four of the five-team events.
