Consider
Consider, the blind whose sightless eyes can
never see
The beauty of the living earth and the glory of the sea.
Consider the deaf, the lonely deaf who have never heard
Music, a laughing voice, the dawn chorus of a singing bird
Consider the dumb with speechless lips in silence
set apart
Who can never express with sounds the longing of the heart.
Consider the lame on crutches bent for they can not know
The thrill of movement without strain, free to come and go
If you take for granted hearing, sight and strength
of limb
Never to forget or let your sense of gratitude grow so dim
When you cry for the moon, grumble at the wind and rain.
Think of the afflicted when your world seem dull and drear
And be thankful that you can walk and see and hear.
