How The 'Two Bite' US Coup Emerged

"America's most controversial writer Gore Vidal has launched the most scathing attack to date on George W Bush's Presidency, calling for an investigation into the events of 9/11 to discover whether the Bush administration deliberately chose not to act on warnings of Al-Qaeda's plans. Vidal's highly controversial 7000 word polemic titled 'The Enemy Within' - published in the print edition of The Observer today - argues that what he calls a 'Bush junta' used the terrorist attacks as a pretext to enact a pre-existing agenda to invade Afghanistan and crack down on civil liberties at home...... Vidal argues that the real motive for the Afghanistan war was to control the gateway to Eurasia and Central Asia's energy riches. He quotes extensively from a 1997 analysis of the region by Zgibniew Brzezinski, formerly national security adviser to President Carter, in support of this theory. But, Vidal argues, US administrations, both Democrat and Republican, were aware that the American public would resist any war in Afghanistan without a truly massive and widely perceived external threat.... At the heart of the essay are questions about the events of 9/11 itself and the two hours after the planes were hijacked. Vidal writes that 'astonished military experts cannot fathom why the government's 'automatic standard order of procedure in the event of a hijacking' was not followed'.  These procedures, says Vidal, determine that fighter planes should automatically be sent aloft as soon as a plane has deviated from its flight plan. Presidential authority is not required until a plane is to be shot down."

"Hours after Congressional Republicans and Democrats announced that they had agreed on the terms of an independent commission to investigate the Sept. 11 attacks, the White House raised fresh objections late today and held off on a final agreement. If the disagreement is not resolved in the few days before the Congressional session ends, the commission, which some people said would be the government's most comprehensive look at the lessons of the attacks, could be postponed until next year. It is possible that the panel would not be created at all. The collapse of the agreement was a surprise to the four senators and two representatives who had announced at a news conference with great fanfare that the commission would be created.   Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, Democrat of Connecticut, issued a statement tonight saying that he was 'surprised and disappointed' that the White House had undercut the deal. The staffs of several other lawmakers seethed that their bosses had been embarrassed. Congressional officials said the White House raised last minute objections to the even split between Republicans and Democrats on the 10-member commission and also wanted to limit the scope of the panel's inquiry and its life span. But some officials said they feared the real White House objection was to having a commission at all... 'The White House is trying to kill this, trying to run out the clock so we don't have a commission,' said Stephen Push, whose wife was aboard the plane that flew into the Pentagon. 'It's really disturbing that Ari Fleischer said today he thought it was so important to have a commission and then to find out they're doing everything they can to kill it.'...."

"Stanley Hilton, a San Francisco attorney and former aide to Senator Bob Dole, filed a $7 billion lawsuit in U.S. District Court on June 3rd. The class-action suit names ten defendants, among whom are George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Condoleezza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld and Norman Mineta. Hilton's suit charges Bush and his administration with allowing the September 11th attacks to take place so as to reap political benefits from the catastrophe.... Hilton's plaintiffs in this case are the families of 14 victims of 9/11, numbering 400 people nationwide. These are the same families that rallied in Washington recently to advocate for an independent investigation into the attacks. The current 9/11 hearings are being conducted by Congress behind closed doors, a situation these families find unacceptable...."

Hot Cheney Panics Over Sept 11 Congressional Investigation Hot

"On Sunday, June 30^th, during an radio interview broadcast nationally on XM Satellite Radio ("On with Leon"), UnansweredQuestions.org (UQ) announced a global initiative to form a 'Citizens' Investigative Commission on 9/11.' In doing so, UQ acknowledges the power of the internet, growing numbers skeptical of the official 9/11 story and increasing calls for answers and accountability. This is one part of a two-fold strategy now being launched by the ad-hoc citizens group. The second part is a UQ Activism Campaign that will parallel the Citizens' Commission making a 9/11 investigation a critical issue in key races during an election year while supporting the call for an open and aggressive independent Congressional investigation....
