Iraq remains a de- stabilising influence to ... the flow of oil to international markets from the Middle East. Saddam Hussein has also demonstrated a willingness to threaten to use the oil weapon and to use his own export programme to manipulate oil markets. Therefore the US should conduct an immediate policy review toward Iraq including military, energy, economic and political/ diplomatic assessments. ..... Baker who delivered the recommendations to Cheney, the former chief executive of Texas oil firm Halliburton, was advised by Kenneth Lay, the disgraced former chief executive of Enron, the US energy giant which went bankrupt after carrying out massive accountancy fraud."

"The 'debate' [on Iraq] reached a crescendo last week, with a series of high-profile editorials by some of the most well-connected courtiers of the Bush family. Old Bush I hands like Brent Scowcroft, James Baker (last seen fixing election 2000 for Junior), and General Stormin' Norman 'Bury Them Alive Before They Can Surrender' Schwarzkopf..... As analyst Norman Solomon has pointed out, none of the courtiers - or other cautioning kibitzers, like Henry Kissinger -- have denied the desirability of military aggression against Iraq. They merely quibble over political fine points: Try to line up some allies to help cover the costs; get a blank check from the rubber stamps in Congress first; and, above all, be sure to mount a massive PR campaign before going in. The only important question - how the United States of America can possibly justify launching an unprovoked war of Hitlerian aggression against another nation - is completely ignored. All of this supposed hand-wringing in high places is designed to obscure the fact that the decision for war has already been made. (Indeed, it was probably made the day the Bush retainers on the Supreme Court gave the election to Spud-Spud.) The troops and materiel are already on the way to their staging areas. Indeed, the Financial Times reports that the Bush regime has even put out contract bids for humanitarian services to help mop up the bloody aftermath. But the 'debate' is crucial for the fall elections. So look to see more 'interventions' by Bush courtiers, more staged wrestling matches in the Cabinet -- surely we're due for an ambiguous statement of seeming reluctance from Colin Powell any day now; you should get at least a week of Harken-free headlines out of that -- and, of course, more complicity, witting and unwitting, bumpkinish or otherwise, from political commentators. None of it will matter. The war will come. The oligarchs of Kennebunkport, Wall Street and Texas will at last control the vast oil fields of Babylon. As usual, the hapless American people will pay for it all, with their blood, their money and the continuing degradation of their liberty, their land and their communities -- victims of the Bush family's firmly-held credo: 'Tough luck, suckers.'...."

That's quite a lot of Bush related heavyweight attention for a small country that most people would not even be able to pin point on a map. As one commentator put it 'Azerbaijan looks like [the] first big winner in [the] Caspian oil race. International consortium, A.I.O.C., has started oil export on November 12, 1997, and [the] country's abundant reserves could bring prosperity within a decade.'...."

"The [Watergate] Plumbers were created at the demand of Henry Kissinger, who told Nixon that something had to be done to stop leaks in the wake of the 'Pentagon Papers' affair of 1971. But if the Plumbers were called into existence by Kissinger, they were funded through a mechanism set up by Kissinger clone George Bush. The open secret of the much-cited but little analyzed 'smoking gun' tape is that it refers to Nixon's desire to mobilize the CIA to halt the FBI investigation of the Watergate burglars on the grounds that money can be traced from donors in Texas and elsewhere to the coffers of the CREEP and thence to the pockets of Bernard Barker and the other Cubans arrested. The money referred to, of course, is part of Bill Liedtke's $700,000 discussed above. A first crucial passage of the 'smoking gun' tape goes as follows....."

"Sometime this fall [2002], probably before the mid-term elections, the United States will likely be at war with Iraq. Not because Iraq is a threat to our security or engaged in terrorism. It will happen because more than a decade ago a small cabal of political heavyweights in the administration of George Bush the First sat down and drew up a blueprint to rule the world. X-File fantasies? Not unless the New Yorker has decided to join the 'I was abducted by aliens' crowd. In the magazine's April 1 edition, writer Nicholas Lemann records one of the downright scariest set of interviews to appear in print since Richard Nixon's Oval Office ravings about nuclear war. In them, the key movers and shakers in the present Bush administration lay out the plan they have been following since Sept. 11, a plan that will launch this country into a series of regional wars aimed at insuring that the United States will remain the supreme power in the world. Almost before the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, then Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney called together a group of players to chart out a strategy for the post-Cold War world. The names should be familiar, because they run the present administration: Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, Secretary of State Colin Powell, and Lewis 'Scooter' Libby, Cheney's chief of staff. The goal was to 'shape' the world in order to, in the words of another team member, Zalmay Khalizad (now special envoy to Afghanistan), 'preclude the rise of another global rival for the indefinite future.' In his book 'From Containment to Global Leadership?' Khalizad argues that it is 'vital' to prevent such a rival from developing and 'to be willing to use force if necessary.'.."

US covert support was financed by the Golden Crescent drug trade. This pattern has not been fundamentally altered. Among the companies Carlyle owns are those which make equipment, vehicles and munitions for the US military... Bush [Snr] gives speeches for the company and is paid with stakes in the firm's investments, believed to be worth at least $80,000 per appearance..... When Carlucci arrived there in 1989, he brought with him a phalanx of former subordinates from the CIA and the Pentagon, and an awareness of the scale of business a company like Carlyle could do in the corridors and steak-houses of Washington."

"The president of the Florida Holocaust Museum said Saturday that George W. Bush's grandfather derived a portion of his personal fortune through his affiliation with a Nazi-controlled bank. John Loftus, a former prosecutor in the Justice Department's Nazi War Crimes Unit, said his research found that Bush's grandfather, Prescott Bush, was a principal in the Union Banking Corp. in Manhattan in the late 1930s and the 1940s. Leading Nazi industrialists secretly owned the bank at that time, Loftus said, and were moving money into it through a second bank in Holland even after the United States declared war on Germany. The bank was liquidated in 1951, Loftus said, and Bush's grandfather and great-grandfather received $1.5 million from the bank as part of that dissolution. 'That's where the Bush family fortune came from: It came from the Third Reich,' Loftus made his remarks during a speech as part of the Sarasota Reading Festival.... [Loftus] said, it is important to understand these historical connections for what they tell us about politics today. The World War II experience points out how easy it was then -- and remains today -- to hide money in multinational funds. That money flows into American politics today, he said, from 'a series of multinational corporations behaving like pirates. They don't care about ideology; they care about money.'..."
