The admission last week by the Bush Administration that it had prior knowledge - however, imprecise in nature it may unconvincingly claim - has transformed the global debate about the Sept 11 attacks on America. It is now no longer taboo amongst the press and ordinary members of the public to begin asking the same basic questions which many committed campaigners on this subject have been asking right from the fateful day itself.

What is now clear is that President Bush - 'the buck stops here' - is quite possibly on the brink of his own version of Nixon's Watergate. The 30th anniversary of that previous presidential scandal is next month. However, Nixon's Watergate now looks increasingly like 'small beer' compared to Bush's two ugly sisters: '911-Gate' and 'Enrongate' (the latter being directly related to the former, a relationship still as yet largely unappreciated by the press and public).

The Watergate scandal of the 1970s which lead to the resignation of President Nixon was eventually brought to the world's attention through the Washington Post. The paper's source for the story was a anonymous figure generally presumed to be a member of the Nixon administration, subsequently referred to as 'Deep Throat'.

Last week's 'security failure' admission by the White House follows a leak of information from within the FBI. This suggests that one or more 'Deep Throat' type characters may be emerging in relation to Sept 11. Information related to the Bush's Administration prior-knowledge of the attacks has in fact been slowly, but steadily, leaking for some considerable time.

Interestingly it is the Washington Post that reported 17 May 2002 - again clearly relying on unnamed insider sources - that: "On July 5 of last year, a month and a day before President Bush first heard that al Qaeda might plan a hijacking, the White House summoned officials of a dozen federal agencies to the Situation Room. 'Something really spectacular is going to happen here, and it's going to happen soon,' the government's top counterterrorism official, Richard Clarke, told the assembled group, according to two of those present. Unlike Watergate, where Nixon himself was the major casualty, 911-Gate has the potential to bring down the whole Bush Administration. Certainly it looks as if Vice President Cheney is as much implicated in the deceptions surrounding 911 as Bush - in fact in all probability considerably more so.

The evidence now strongly indicates that far from having such prior-knowledge and failing to act competently, parts of the Bush Administration sought to allow the attacks to take place in order to gain mass public support for wider domestic and foreign policy objectives. The evidence for this is already highly compelling, but the new wave of questioning relating to Sept 11 now dramatically increases the probability of further corroborative evidence emerging.

In this context we have provided below a compilation of some penetrating questions suitable for presentation to specified figures appearing before an in-depth inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the events of Sept 11. These questions have already been posted to a number of web sites, with the original source seemingly a discussion forum called Ground Zero, New York City (the author-compiler appears not to be named, although the use of English in some of the questions perhaps suggests another tongue as a first language).

The relevance of many of these questions will be clear to anyone who has been closely following discussion of this topic in 'Fight Smart' bulletins and other fora. Other questions are more obscure, perhaps suggesting contributors who may be unusually well-informed.

On this web page we have provided an index of the names identified for questioning (see below). For ease of use these are given in alphabetical order with a link to their allocated questions.

The list of those to be questioned represents an interesting 'roll call'. Some of the targets are household names, others are not. To give a flavour of the searching nature of some of the questions, here are just a few examples of those aimed at some of the less well known potential testifiers:

Beyond these the most numerous questions are - not surprisingly - for Robert Mueller, Director of the FBI, George Tenet, Director of the CIA, Dr. James G. Roche, Secretary of the Air Force, and Vice President Dick Cheney.

The current claims by the Bush Administration that it could not have anticipated civilian airliner attacks on prominent US buildings are completely destroyed by the press and other references given at the beginning and end of this bulletin (in addition to more commonly cited examples, the Pentagon itself even ran a three day mock security exercise in October 2000 which included a 'plane crash' into the Pentagon - see Military District of Washington News Service report, 3 Nov 2000, in the section at the bottom of this bulletin entitled: 'George W. Bush's Watergate').

It is particularly notable that various civilian airliner attack scenarios that were considered during the previous Clinton Administration were under the tenure of security chief George Tenet. Tenet was, from 1995 onwards, deputy head of the CIA and then its Director. Tenet remains head of the CIA to this day, being the first CIA director in 28 years to remain in office after the White House had changed occupants. Indeed, the 11 March 2002 edition of Time Magazine revealed that Tenet survived the transition from Clinton to Bush administrations 'because he is close to Bush' (with whatever that might imply regarding Tenet's agenda during his preceding years at the Agency ).

There is, therefore, absolutely no way that the White House can convincingly claim that the changeover of administrations could have caused the security services to 'forget' about the possibility of suicide hijacking scenarios. One of the Clinton era reports even deals specifically with the issue of aircraft strikes on the White House itself, following an incident where a Cessna light aircraft crashed into a wall two stories below the presidential bedroom in 1994.

The non-classified elements of that report are available on the internet. The report is entitled 'Public Report of the White House Security Review'. The plane that hit the Pentagon on Sept 11 flew through the very White House air space that that report was intended to protect from such incursions.

An Associated Press report dated 17 May quotes national security adviser Condoleeza Rice as claiming last Thursday that "I don't think anybody could have predicted that these people would take an airplane and slam it into the World Trade Center, take another one and slam it into the Pentagon; that they would try to use an airplane as a missile, a hijacked airplane as a missile." She is not speaking the truth. The question is 'why?'.

The time has surely come to expose what the Bush Administration has been hiding.

The fact that Fleischer confirmed details of the President's intelligence briefing - something he and previous government spokesmen never do - suggested the White House clearly is concerned about the appearance of a coverup...The revelation that Bush had been briefed about potential hijackings marks a shift in the official version of events surrounding the Sept. 11 attacks. Bush and other administration officials have generally characterized the terrorist hijackings as a sneak attack that could not have been foreseen."

"One FBI memo, written by a Phoenix agent in July 2001, warned about suspicious activities by Middle Eastern men at an Arizona flight school. Last week, in little-noticed testimony before a Senate panel, FBI Director Robert Mueller referred to another internal document that may prove more explosive: notes by a Minneapolis agent worrying that French Moroccan flight student Zacarias Moussaoui might be planning to 'fly something into the World Trade Center.'....The notes are especially eerie because Moussaoui faces charges that he was part of the 9-11 plot. Sources say the notes Mueller referred to were written in early September 2001—days before the attack. The author was part of a counterterrorism team desperately trying to figure out what Moussaoui was up to. He had been arrested in August on immigration charges after a Minnesota flight instructor reported that he showed a suspicious interest inlearning how to steer large airliners. When agents learned, from French intelligence, that he had radical Islamic ties, they sought a national-security warrant to search his computer—and got turned down.... The agents were 'in a frenzy,' 'absolutely convinced he was planning to do something with a plane,' said a senior official. One agent wrote that 'one possibility' was that Moussaoui might be planning to crash into the Twin Towers."

"The 'smoking gun' briefing received by President George Bush just a month before 11 September carried the heading, 'Bin Laden determined to strike in the US', and focused on al-Qa'ida's ability to strike within the US mainland, it was revealed yesterday. Despite White House claims that the briefing document related primarily to the threat of an attack on a US target overseas, the document also made very clear Mr bin Laden's desire 'to bring the fight to America'. It also emerged yesterday that the FBI had been aware for several years that al-Qa'ida was using US flying schools to train its pilots and, as early as 1996, it was told of a specific threat to use a plane in a suicide attack against the CIA's headquarters.The latest revelations could prove very damaging to Mr Bush, who has insisted that, had he known al-Qa'ida was planning such an attack, he 'would have done everything in [his] power to protect the American people'. Earlier last week, Mr Bush's national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, told reporters that the information given to the President was not specific."

The report noted that an al-Qaida-linked terrorist first arrested in the Philippines in 1995 and later convicted in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing had suggested such a suicide jetliner mission. 'Ramzi Yousef had planned to do this against the CIA headquarters,' author Rex Hudson wrote in a report prepared for the National Intelligence Council and shared with other federal agencies. The intelligence council is attached to the CIA and is made up of a dozen senior intelligence officers who assist the U.S. intelligence community in analysis of threats and priorities. The report contrasts with Bush administration officials' assertions that none in government had imagined an attack like Sept. 11 before that time...."

Army medics, nurses and doctors scramble to organize aid. An Arlington Fire Department chief dispatches his equipment to the affected areas. Don Abbott, of Command Emergency Response Training, walks over to the Pentagon and extinguishes the flames. The Pentagon was a model and the 'plane crash' was a simulated one. The Pentagon Mass Casualty Exercise, as the crash was called, was just one of several scenarios that emergency response teams were exposed to Oct. 24-26 [2000] in the Office of the Secretaries of Defense conference room. On Oct. 24 [2000], there was a mock terrorist incident at the Pentagon Metro stop and a construction accident to name just some of the scenarios that were practiced to better prepare local agencies for real incidents....'We go over scenarios that are germane to the Pentagon,' Jake Burrell of the Pentagon Emergency Management Team said.... In this particular crash there would have been 341 victims. "
