"The instantaneous relief of pain and improvement in function in such a high proportion of subjects with chronic arthritis is unparalleled in modern medical science"
Frontiers in Bioscience, Vol 6, h7-17, April 1, 2001

April 2001

The latest edition of the peer reviewed scientific journal 'Frontiers in Bioscience' (Vol 6, April 1, 2001) has published two research papers which herald a major breakthrough in the lifesciences, promising to take biotechnology away from the expensive and ineffectual methods of genetic engineering and towards genuinely effective and cost efficient methods of natural medicine and agriculture in a way which is both holistic and non-genome-disruptive in its approach.

Abstracts of the two papers on Vedic Medicine (the second of which involves a 'double-blind' placebo controlled trial and is particularly interesting from both empirical and theoretical perspectives) are given below, although the full text of the papers can be accessed via http://www.bioscience.org/current/vol6.htm (see 'Natural Medicine' section at bottom of target page).

The papers suggest that the success of these applications of Vedic Science is in particular due to their ability to take into account regulatory influences on biological systems derived from the unified quantum field (which operates from subatomic levels in all organisms).  This ability is one which is clearly well-placed to avoid the high element of risk associated with recombinant DNA genetic engineering techniques and other approaches to health and agriculture which are based on non-unified systems of knowledge:

"An explanation of the results requires a deeper understanding of the laws governing the physiology than is currently available from the linear models in modern medicine. An explanation of the Vedic perspective on the source and dynamics of the self-referral functioning of the physiology has been presented. Its close correspondence with the most advanced areas of quantum field theory and non-linear dynamics, as found in self-organization theories and chaos theory of modern science, has been noted." (Nader et Al, 2001)

Work is now also underway to apply this more sophisticated understanding of the holistic nature of the genome to the field of agriculture.  This work is anticipated to precipitate a revolution in the development of sustainable systems of agriculture for the expanding global population in the coming decades, using a context-based approach to agricultural biology derived from traditional Vedic Agriculture (i.e. an approach which is fully integrated at, and between, all biosystem strata including those at quantum mechanical, molecular and macro-environmental levels of natural law).

Quantum biology is now a rapidly evolving and exciting field of science which is expected to replace the incoherent and disruptive recombinant DNA methods currently fashionable in modern biotechnology:

"... recently a wealth of evidence has demonstrated the importance of quantum mechanics for biological systems and thus a new field of quantum biology is emerging..... Novel biophysical methods resulting from the fusion of biology and quantum mechanics have the potential to revolutionize our understanding of both fields."

(Quantum Biology - Nanotechnology, 25 June 2000).

MAHARISHI VEDIC VIBRATION TECHNOLOGY ON CHRONIC DISORDERS AND ASSOCIATED QUALITY OF LIFE

ABSTRACT

There is a growing interest for more effective, innovative programs to address the chronic illness suffered by approximately 40 percent of the U.S. population. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a new Maharishi Vedic Medicine program-the Maharishi Vedic Vibration Technology-on the quality of life of individuals with chronic disorders. A total of 213 individuals took part in the study (mean age=48.55 years; average length of time of chronic illness=18.42 years). Results showed that over three sessions, the average self-reported improvement in chronic illness was 40.97 percent. Conditions related to neck pain improved the most (51.25%), followed by respiratory ailments (48.00%), digestive problems (46.90%), mental health, including anxiety and depression (46.34%), arthritis (41.57%), insomnia (37.38%), back pain (36.32%), headaches (35.83%), cardiovascular conditions (22.31%), and eye problems (21.19%). Findings also showed significant reductions in frequency of discomfort or pain (p<.000001), intensity of discomfort (p<.000001), and disabling effects of the discomfort in daily activity (p<.000001), in addition to overall improvement in mental health (p<.000001) and vitality (p<.000125). Possible mechanisms of action are presented.

A DOUBLE BLIND RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL OF MAHARISHI VEDIC VIBRATION TECHNOLOGY IN SUBJECTS WITH ARTHRITIS

Tony A. Nader, D. Edwards Smith, Michael C. Dillbeck, Volker Schanbacher, Susan L. Dillbeck, Phillipe Gallois, Sophie Beall-Rougerie, Robert H. Schneider, Sanford I. Nidich, Gary P. Kaplan, Steele Belok

ABSTRACT

To explore ancient Vedic medical techniques, one hundred and seventy-six subjects with arthritis participated in a controlled study through the non-pharmacologic approach known as the Maharishi Vedic Vibration Technology (MVVT). Using a double-blinded and randomized experimental design, the findings showed significant reductions of pain and stiffness, and improvement in range of motion in the study sample. One hundred percent relief of symptoms was the most commonly reported category of improvement due to treatment. For the group as a whole, differences in mean response of treatment and control conditions with respect to relief of pain, limitation of motion, and reduction in stiffness were highly significant: t values ranged from a low of 5.609 in stiffness to a high of 20.950 in pain, p = 0.000009 to <10-49 respectively. Analysis by sub-categories of peripheral arthritis, painful conditions of the spine, and rheumatoid arthritis likewise produced significant results. Mechanisms of action were proposed, drawing on Maharishi Vedic Science, developments in quantum field theory, and specifically the theories of chaos and self-organizing systems as they relate to physiological functioning. The instantaneous relief of pain and improvement in function in such a high proportion of subjects with chronic arthritis is unparalleled in modern medical science.
