NLP LEADERS PARTICIPATE IN NOBEL PEACE PRIZE CEREMONY
The Nobel Peace Prize for 1998 was awarded to the leaders of the two main
political parties of Northern Ireland, John Hume and David Trimble. The
citation of the award also noted the contribution of all leaders who helped
in the peace process in Northern Ireland. As a result the Natural Law Party
of Northern Ireland was officially invited to the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony
in Oslo in December 1998. The Peace Prize Committee followed a highly
positive recommendation from official sources in Northern Ireland.
The ceremony in Oslo City Hall was attended by Jim Anderson and Thomas
Mullins, Leader and Chairman of the Natural Law Party of Northern Ireland,
along with the NLP Leader of Norway, Odd Loset. They had the opportunity to
talk personally with the Nobel Laureates and members of the international
and local media in a very positive and cordial atmosphere.
The fact that the NLP leaders were on the official guest list gave
recognition to the NLP of Northern Ireland for its role in maintaining peace
during the June 1998 elections for the new Northern Ireland Assembly. This
was achieved with the help of a coherence-creating group of about 150 (the
square root of 1% of the population of Northern Ireland) experts in
Maharishi's Transcendental Meditation and Yogic Flying, from many different
countries. The group created such a strong influence of harmony and peace
that the turbulent election atmosphere was calmed considerably, and the
result was that the historic shift towards a more positive and evolutionary
approach to politics continued during the elections. This effect, which had
been predicted by the Natural Law Party, was widely reported in the media.
However, serious divisions still remain, and unless the British and Irish
Governments take up the proposal of the Natural Law Party to create a
permanent coherence-creating group in the region, these divisions could
erupt again and create tremendous strain on the new Assembly and the peace
process in Northern Ireland.
