Stories

Here are some true stories I put together.

Heidi

Heidi was a huge rat, she was certainly the boss of the rattery. When I would clean out the cage she would always be on my shoulder, not letting any of the others near me. One day I had them all out to play and I opened the bedroom window to let a fly out. The rattery was in the spare bedroom back then. Any how, as I was about to close the windows Heidi jumped up, missed my shoulder and went sailing through the window! I panicked as I fell down the stairs from top to bottom and ran out the front door expecting to find her dead in the front garden but Heidi was no where to be seen and having three cats you can imagine what I thought. I just sat on the lawn and cried. By this time I was beginning to feel my bruises. As I was getting up I saw a movement in one of my scrubs and out popped Heidi as if she didnt have a care in the world, I took her to the vet who checked her out. She was fine and soon back bossing the others about whilst I was nursing bad bruising for over a week. Got to be a moral in there somewhere, dont you think?

Ferret Fiasco

My ferrets, Bruno and Tyson are real pets they have been castrated as they don't smell to good if you don't, one day I went to bring them in but there was only one in the playpen, well as ferrets don't have any homing instincts I was besides myself with worry. My grandson and I looked every where but no Bruno. We were just about to give up when I heard someone shout, "lost a ferret have you?", I said yes and the voice said, "he’s around the corner frightening all the ladies", well when I found him he was having the time of his life there was quite a crowd of ladies trying to pass him and he was going for there feet, now I new he was only playing and wouldn't hurt them but they didn't, as I have a wicked sense of humour I just pretended I too was afraid to pick him up I just stood there for a while and watched him play, after a while I picked him up kissed him and started home you, should of heard the comments!

Heron Hell

My husband wasn't into animals like me although he liked the dogs, he used to say to his mates, "God knows what is waiting for me at home". Well one day I had a nice surprise, I had taken in a heron gull who had hit the electric cables and although he was badly shaken he was not hurt to bad, the only place that was quiet enough for him was our bedroom. So in he went whilst I made other arrangements for him. Now as my husband wasn't due home for hours I thought, "I've plenty of time to find him somewhere to go, my hubby wont even know". Well he came home early and before I could tell him he went to the bedroom, I closed my eyes and waited. The shouts were awful, I could never repeat here what he called me! The heron gull beginning to feel better had attacked him, now, the span of a heron gulls wings are enormous and the beaks can really bruise. My husband came down those stairs like a bat out of hell. I was never allowed to for get that for a long time. When some years later I sadly lost him, I could just imagine him up in heaven saying thank god for that - at last some peace.
