APPLEBY
Mr. Stanley POTTS, Permanent Way Clerk, aged 55, who died on April 28 after a long illness. Mr. POTTS, who was a Magazine Agent, had previously worked at Skipton. He was noted for his cricket prowess both at Skipton and Appleby.
ASHBOURNE
Mr. A. MORTON, Lengthman, who passed away recently, aged 63. Mr. MORTON had been in the service for 32 years.
ASHTON (Oldham Road)
Mr. Alfred LEES, Goods Checker, who retired a short time ago owing to ill health.
BALLYMENA
Mr. Jas. ESLER, late Fencer's Helper, who died on April 12. Mr. ESLER retired in 1930.
BANGOR
Mr. J. R. JONES, Signalman, aged 54, who died on April 14. Mr. JONES had been Branch Secretary of the N.U.R. for 12 years.
BLETCHLEY
Mr. C. H. IVORY, aged 53, who retired from the position of Tubecleaner in August 1938 owing to ill health.
Mr. J. GIBBONS, Fitter, aged 40, who was engaged on the Diesel set. Mr. GIBBONS died on April 22 as the result of an accident.
BLYTHE BRIDGE
Mr. W. H. BAKER, aged 54, Signalman, Stallington Crossing, who died on May 3, whilst at work.
BUCKNELL
Mr. William MORGAN, aged 86. Mr. MORGAN was formerly employed in the Goods Dept.
BUXTON
Mr. George BARKER, Engine Driver, aged 63, who passed away after a long illness. Mr. BARKER was a keep gardener.
CHEADLE HULME
Mr. H. P. ROBINSON, who died on April 2 after a long illness. Mr. ROBINSON joined the L.N.W.R. in 1903 and had been Signalman at Cheadle Hulme since 1922.
CHESTER
Mr. John HUGHES, aged 65. Mr. HUGHES, who was Signal Inspector at Chester for 18 years, retired in 1930
DERBY
Mr. "Bill" WORRAL, who died on April 26. Mr. WORRAL helped on the Derby Athletic Association's ground for many years and was formerly employed in the Signal Works.
EUSTON
Mr. H. PRICE, aged 59, who met with a fatal accident on March 31. Mr. PRICE joined the Carriage Dept. in 1907 and was appointed T.E.L. Examiner in 1920. He was a member of the Ambulance Movement for 31 years and had acted as team secretary for some time. Mr. PRICE was also a member of the L.D.C.
GLASGOW
Mr. Robert CARRUTHERS, who died on April 20, aged 62. Mr. CARRUTHES retired in 1937, having completed 45 years' service in the Audit Office.
HEMEL HEMPSTEAD and BOXMOOR
Mr. John Fountain HAZZARD, aged 61, Goods Checker. Mr. HAZZARD was very popular with his colleagues.
Mr. Tom HUDSTON, who retired owing to health reasons. Mr. HUDSTON started at Bingley in 1896 and subsequently worked at Apperley Bridge, Rotherham (Masboro) and Leek before being transferred to Boxmoor.
HOLLY BUSH (Mon)
Mr. Sam Willans PRIOR, Signalman, aged 61, who died on April 25. Mr. PRIOR joined the L.N.W.R. at Morley in 1896 and was transferred to Pochin Signalbox, Holly Bush, in 1902, where he remained for 37 years.
KNOTTINGLEY
Mr. Charles ROBINSON, aged 67. Mr. ROBINSON was formerly a Platelayer.
LANCASTER
Mr. Tom HILLARY, aged 66. Mr. HILLARY started his career at Workington in 1898 and subsequently worked in the District Engineer's Office, Lancaster.
Mr. T. HOLLINGSHEAD, retired Driver, aged 88, who passed away on April 20. A number of former workmates attended the funeral.
LEEK
Mr. James H. RUMBLE, Permanent Way Inspector, who passed away on April 29 after a long illness. Mr. RUMBLE had served at Gospel Oak, Poplar, Barnsbury, Camden Town and Stoke, being transferred to Leek in 1936.
Mr. J. WOOD, retired Signal Lineman, who passed away on April 16. Mr. WOOD retired in 1929.
LEIGHTON BUZZARD
Mr. George HARVEY, aged 87. Mr. HARVEY joined the L.N.W.R. in 1876 and served at Camden, Birkenhead, and later in the Chelmscote gang, retiring in 1922. In his early days Mr. HARVEY was noted for his great strength.
Mr. Thomas KEEN, aged 71. Mr. KEEN retired in 1933 after 40 years' service, many of which were spent in the Chelmscote gang. Mr. KEEN will be greatly missed for his efforts on behalf of the N.U.R. Widows and Orphans Society. He was a very keen gardener.
LUGGENHAM
Mr. George HIPPEY, aged 78, who retired from the position of Platelayer in 1928.
Mr. Richard HIPPEY, aged 83. Mr. HIPPEY retired in 1921 after 45 years' service with the L.N.W.R. as Platelayer.
MANCHESTER
Mr. F. PARSONS, late Passenger Guard, Manchester Exchange, who passed away on April 18, aged 72.
Mr. J. RICHARDSON, aged 68, late Platform Inspector, Manchester Exchange, who died on April 19.
MIDSOMER NORTON
Mr. E. J. LUKE, Engine Driver, who passed away recently.
NORMANTON
Mr. A. HORNER, Fireman, aged 39, who passed away on May 4 after a long and painful illness.
PENRHYN JUNCTION
Mr. Thomas H. WILLIAMS, aged 50, who passed away on April 2. Mr. WILLIAMS had been a Ganger for many years.
PERTH
Mr. Alexander HERD, C. & W. Dept., aged 49, who died on April 17 as a result of an accident. Mr. HERD was extremely popular with his colleagues.
SEATON (Rutland)
Mr. Henry BUSBY, retired Engine Driver, aged 70. Mr. BUSBY formerly worked at the Seaton Junction, Stamford and Uppingham branches.
STOKE-ON-TRENT
Mr. Frank M. CLEWS, aged 73, who passed away recently. Mr. CLEWS entered the service of the N.S.R. at Longport in 1880 and later became Chief Rates Clerk, a position which he held until retirement.
Mr. Samuel DOWNS, Labourer, aged 66, Signal and Telegraph Dept., who passed away recently. Mr. DOWNS retired in 1937.
Mr. P. MELVILLE, Labourer, Engineer's Works, aged 32. Mr. MELVILLE had been in the service since 1933.
SWANSEA
Mr. E. T. WELCH, former Chief Rates Clerk, D.G. & P.M.O., aged 72. Mr. WELCH, who retired in 1927, spent the whole of his career at Swansea.
UTTOXETER
Mr. Richard HUNTER, Parcels Dept., who died recently. Mr. HUNTER formerly worked at Rocester and Leek.
