BADMINGTON
The Finals held in connection with the Liverpool Street Recreation Club provided some close contests. Mr. A. BURTON presided, and the prizes were presented by Mrs. BURTON. The arrangements were made by Miss Edith SAVORY and a committee. The winners were:-

BOXING
The L.N.E.R. championship meeting at the Stadium Club, High Holborn, London, proved one of the best yet. A solid four hours' boxing was seen, and at times the bouts were exceedingly good.
Sir Ronald W. MATTHEWS, the President of the Association (who was introduced by Col. H. H. MAULDIN), expressed his pleasure at the display witnessed, and then asked Lady MATTHEWS to present the awards. Others present were: The Rt. Hon. Lord BURGHLEY, Sir Gerald TALBOT, Messrs. C. H. NEWTON, J. E. RYAN, and C. M. STEDMAN. The championship cup was won by the Northern Area. The winners were:--
Fly Weight - J. R. HALL, of Shildon, beat W. FISHER, of Bishopsgate.
Fly Weight - R. FOSTER, of Darlington, beat S. J. MANN, of Norwich.
Final - HALL beat FOSTER on points.
Bantam Weight - R. SCOTT, of Glasgow, beat R. HUDSON, of Brentwood.
Final - SCOTT beat HORNER, of Shildon, on points and thus won a cup replica for winning three years in succession.
Feather Weight - R. WINTER, of Glasgow, beat N. H. JOHNSON, of Darlington.
Feather Weight - A. B. COOK, of Peterboro', was the winner against E. HAY, of Darlington, who was disqualified.
Feather Weight - G. A. CROLLA, of Manchester, beat F. E. LOWE, of Liverpool Street, on points.
Feather Weight - WINTER knocked out CROLLA in the first round.
Light Weight - C. IRONS, of Liverpool Street, beat B. B. WEBSTER, of Woodhall Junction.

SOCIALITIES
The Caxton (Stratford) Sports Club held their annual dinner and social in Lysbeth Hall on March 25, when Mr. C. J. PEARCE presided over a large gathering. Presentations were made to Mr. HAWKER, and a replica of the G.E.A.A.A. shield to the team. The toast of the club was given by the chairman, who stressed the value of sport and the team spirit.
Mr. F. HUTT gave "The Visitors," to which Mr. A. H. BELL, Assistant General Secretary of the R.A.A. responded. The chairman's toast was given by Mr. W. L. AGER.
The proceedings were a great success and reflected credit on the secretary, Mr. W. PERRY, and the committee, viz: Messrs. C. LEADBETTER (chairman), J. BROWN, H. WILLATS, L. DENNAHY, W. TIBBLE, W. WRIGHT, Miss FOZZARD, and Miss HULME.
The Bishopsgate Social and Athletic Club dinner and concert was held at Broad Street Restaurant on March 25. Mr. J. BEESTON, goods agent, presided, and in giving the toast of the L.N.E.R. reminded all that the railways were passing through a trying period. He said the company were interested in the welfare of the staff, and it therefore behoved them to give of their best in return. Mr. H. B. SELL gave the toast of the club and paid a tribute to the General Secretary, Mr. L. C. RUST. The chairman's toast was in the hands of Mr. R. WEBB. In the 10 months Mr. BEESTON has been with us, said Mr. WEBB, he has endeared himself to the staff and was deeply interested in their welfare.
SPORTS
The annual sports meeting will be held at Loughton on June 17. As usual, both handicap and championship events will be staged, and in addition, singles bowls, tug-of-war, and tennis championships. Entries must be made on A.A.A. forms and close on June 10. All entries and full particulars from Stan W. FROST, Superintendent's Office, Liverpool Street.
TENNIS
The draw for the Director's Cup is as follows:--

The Eastern Lawn Tennis Club, who have four hard tennis courts at the G.E. Sports Ground, Loughton, have vacancies for few members (ladies and gents).
L.N.E.R. employees - Entrance Fee, 5s. Subscription, 22s. 6d.
The charges cover the period May1, 1939, to April 30, 1940, and include the regular provision of new tennis balls.
A team is entered in the West Essex Tennis League, and last year won the championship for the third consecutive time.

SWIMMING
Gt. Northern Swimming Club
The 1939 season opened at Caledonian Road Baths on Monday, May 1, at 5.15p.m., and meetings will be held every Monday throughout the summer with the exception of Bank Holidays. The club is now open to both sexes, and as the membership is nearly 100, only a few more can be admitted, as a limit of 125 has been fixed. Instruction in swimming and diving is given, and individual and team races are held from time to time.

ROWING
Oakley Rowing Club (L.N.E. (G.N.)A.A.).
The club has maintained its activities during the past winter months, entering for the West End Winter Eights, which resulted in seven keen races with other clubs.
A crew has entered for the Metropolitan Head of the River Race, and completed the course from Mortlake to Putney in 21m. 50secs. Also in the West End Head of the River race, from Kew Bridge to Hammersmith Bridge, a distance of 31/2 miles, and returned the time of 19m. 38secs. for the course.
The summer season commenced on April 4th, and the committee hope that all members will do their best to give the club full active support. Will all members and friends please note the following dates and events:--

May 23.-- Fours Race.
June 17.-- W.End Annual Regatta.
New members will be welcomed. The club meets at Hammersmith on Tuesday and Thursday, at 6 p.m., and on Saturday at 2 p.m. Full particulars will be sent on application to the secretary, H. G. SMITH, Goods Manager's Office, Liverpool Street.
BOWLS
Cowlairs & Eastfield Bowling Club.
The annual social and presentation of prizes took place in Loco. Hall, Morin Street, Mr. MCLAREN, presiding. Mrs. C. PATERSON presented prizes to the following:--

HOCKEY
On April 1 teams representing the Leeds L.N.E.R. District Goods Manager's Office, Leeds L.M.S.R. District Goods Manager's Office, Leeds L.N.E.R. District Passenger Manager's Office, and the Leeds Goods Departments, met on the Middleton Leeds playing fields in a friendly encounter. The Leeds L.N.E.R. District Goods Manager's Office team were the victors by securing three goals against two scored by their opponents.
BRIDGE
King's Cross Literary Society (Contract Bridge Section)
The above section, which has now between 30 and 40 active members, arranged a pairs tournament as a wind-up to the successful 1938-39 season on April 13. Fourteen pairs competed in an interesting competition, which was run on the "match point" basis. Messrs. RIDLEY and PHILIPS acted as M.Cs.

Inverurie Locomotive Works Club
At the closing meeting of the Inverurie Loco. Bridge Club on April 7, a knock-out competition was held, the winners being Messrs. G. MATHIESON and A. CLARK, with Messrs. J. HENDRY and A. PONTING runners-up. Prizes were presented to Messrs. J. JESSIMAN, and J. HENDRY, and D. BAIN and W. BURNETT, winners and runners-up, respectively, of the League competition held throughout the season. Mr. A. BUCHAN, secretary of the club, was presented with a fountain pen in recognition of his services. A return match with the Inverurie Club resulted in another defeat for the Loco. Club, but the margin was considerable reduced.
The annual general meeting of the Tennis Club was held in the Pavilion on April 4. The following office bearers were elected:--
