The following transcription is based on several contributions that I’ve received from lots of different people – I hereby thank you all so very much for responding to my cry for help.

The ???? represent areas that still remain a mystery.

All I have to do now is find the connection between this Thomas and

William HANNISS who married Elizabeth NEVE in Basingstoke (Hampshire) in 1697?

 

 

THE LAST WILL & TESTAMENT OF

THOMAS HENNIS OF WICKHAM – WHO DIED IN 1664

 

 

1.      In the name of God amen, the 16th day of March Ann Dom. 1663

2.      I Thomas Henis of Wickham parish in the county of South (?southampton) ?????

3.      beinge sick in bodie, but sound of memorie, thanks be to god

4.      doe make and ordaine this my last will and testament, in

5.      manner and forme followinge (that is to say) first I committ

6.      my soule into the hands of almightie god who gave it to me, and

7.      of Christ Jesus my only Lord and Saviour, by whome I hoape

8.      for the full forgiveness of all my sinns, and everlasting salvation

9.      And my bodie I bequeath unto the earth from whence it came

10.  and to be buried in decent and Christianlike manner, in the parish

11.  Church of Wickham aforesaid. Item I give & bequeath to the

12.  poor of the parish of Wickham fortie shillings to be paid as soone

13.  as monie shall come in and distributed by the distcretion of the

14.  minister & churchwardens. Item I give to Allice B??ham

15.  and her children 40 pounds of lawfull monie of England

16.  to be paid & divided by equal portions between them by my

17.  executor, soe soone as monie coms in as it is due.

23.  to Martin Ch?????ly -5 shillings. Sara the wash maid -5 shillings - to old

24.  William Bunn (?burn ?buin) - 12 shillings To old Richard ?Challaway 12 shillings - to Ann

25.  the wife of Richard Challow ???? 15 shillings - & 5 shillings to ?how ?hie, bound to buy

26.  him a pr of gloves, to Mr Jonathan Clarke 20 shillings to ??

27.  Francis Webb (wibb) 20 shillings - to Mr. Webbs wife - 20 shillings - for ?Maior Clarke

28.  20 shillings - to Mr ?Hawkins (?Perkins) - 10 shillings - to Thomas Cl???ly his wife and his

29.  daugher and two boyes - five pounds - all these legacies to be paid

30.  by my executor within twelve months after my ?departure

31.  Item I give to John Brinsfed (?berisford) ???master (???post ???school) of Wickham - 10 shillings to
