Dear Stephen/Dierdre

I see from the Kent family history pages that you are both

researching the Pilcher family. Do you have any connections with a

Herbert Edward Pilcher born in 1846 in Sturry and who married a Fanny

Mead in 1867 ? I recently met someone in Hampshire who has traced

his wife's family from this line and I know he would be interested

if there was any additional information to swap. I myself only came

across him because this Fanny Mead was the cousin of my great great

grandmother, Fanny Mead Court.

I think I forgot to say that they lived in Patrixbourne, near

Canterbury.

Hi. I am also researching Pilcher. I have Harriet Jane PILCHER baptized at

St Pauls Deptford on the 14th March 1824 to parents William and Mary Ann(nee

Sharp). Harriet married Benjamin JOY in 1845 and they came to Australia in

the 1850's. Are there any connections.

Thank you

Dear Deirdre

I cannot see any familiar names in your Pilcher list but I can shed a little light on Pilchers at Rye.

I have an ancestor, Charles Pilcher, who lived there most of his life.

There is a memorial for him in the church in Rye:

Sacred to the memory of Charles Pilcher Esq

who departed this life April XXI MDCCCXLIV

aged LXXVI years

He was a resident of Rye and it's vicinity for LXII years

he left surviving Elizabeth his widow

one son and four daughters

viz. Eliza, Mary Anne, Charles Simmonds,

Anna Maria and Caroline Elizabeth.

This tablet was erected by Elizabeth his widow

as a pious token of love and respect for a kind

husband and an affectionate father

Also to the memory of

Alfred-Simmonds Pilcher

son of the said

Charles and Elizabeth Pilcher

who departed this life July XXV, MDCCCXXXVIII

Aged XXV years

sincerely regretted by his parents and friends

he was a dutiful son and a kind brother

Also to the memory of Elizabeth

widow of the above named Charles Pilcher

who departed this life on the XXVIIth day of May MDCCCLIX

aged LXXXIII years

and was interred at Wadhurst in this county

Mary Anne married Thomas Beale and they lived in various places around

Biddenden. Charles Simmonds married Frances Beale and they farmed near

Tenterden. I don't know what became of the other siblings.

I was recently given the names of publicans in Rye which included:

John Pilcher, Red Lion, 1781-1784

Charles Pilcher, Red Lion, 1784-1788

Charles Pilcher, The Queens's Head, 1788-1794

Thomas Pilcher, The London Trader, 1796-1799

Charles Pitcher (sic - for Pilcher?), coal merchant in The Strand, Rye

I wonder of John, Charles and Thomas are brothers? father and sons? Charles

may be my man - on the memorial he is said to have been in Rye for 62 years

which would take him back to about 1782. On the other hand if it is him he

went up market: the memorial is large and expensive, he farmed just outside

Rye, had votes at Rye and at Woodhouse in Kent (from which he came before

taking up residence inRye? Do you know of Pilchers at Woodhouse?) and his

son Charles Simmonds P was a merchant, farmer and shipowner.

Hi Deirdre

My g-g-grandmother was Ann PILCHER born 1826 in St Margarets Kent. She

married my g-g-grandfather William HOOD of Sutton Kent. Ann died June 10

1917.

Our HOOD family bible also refers to Ann PILCHER who I believe is my

g-g-g-grandmother. She died May 9 1877 aged 78 years.

Also mentioned is Eleanor PILCHER who died July 2 1882 aged 41 years.

Do you have any connections?

Hi Deirdre

I recently read your entry in the Folkestone Family History magazine re

PILCHER. I cannot see any connection with your own line but my 5x great

grandmother was an Anne PILCHER and I thought you might like to add her to

your One Name Study. I do not know much about Anne except that she married

George BROMLEY in Hougham on13.11.1794, and that she was buried in Hougham

Kent on 19.4.1796. George and Anne had one child, Jane BROMLEY born 1795
