Subject:  (Elham Par. reg.)-Pilcher

Hi Deidre,
Have I got some PILCHER's for you!   I knew it was a fairly common Kent name.
Elham itself is a small parish. Can you imagine how many there would be in a
larger town?!!        There was also a PITCHER surname that showed up from
time to time. I didn't write any down, but, it is something to consider.  You
know how they re-arranged the spelling of their names over the years.  The
handwritten entries are a little hard to read at times... so some are just a
"best guess", but I did mark the ones I wasn't sure of (?)

On the same microfilm is a section of parish reg from Acrise.  Some is VERY
old.. 1600's and 1700's.  You know that old flowery writing... I'm sure that
I saw some Pilchers in there, but it will take some serious study if you want
to make out what it says.   In a newer section from Acrise, there were some
baptisms.

1812, George, son of Stephen and Hannah Pilcher
1813   Jane, dau of        "                   '          "
I believe there were some before that... the writing is just so hard to make
out.
new format for baptisms after 1813
5 Dec 1820... Susannah, dau of William and Susannah Pilcher
23 Sep 1822... George, son of       "                   "            "
9 Feb 1834... Stephen, son of Richard and Mary Ann Pilcher

Hope this is some new information for you.
If you come across any MOUNT connections in your families, could you keep me
in mind?
Regards,
Judy

Hello Deirdre. I am a member of KFHS - and my name is Julie, not jodi.

I saw your note to fellow KFHS member re Pilchers and so mention my 'line'

in case we can help one another in our research.

I am a fairly new researcher. I joined KFHS last year just before heading to

Kent with my 83yrold mother [nee Lillian Pilcher] for a holiday and expected

family history to fall into my lap.

Ten months later I have traced my GG Grandfather Richard [b 1822, in

Sheldwich and who later lived in Hackington and Selling] and worked as a a

blacksmith; and Richard Jnr [b 1853 b Selling and lived in Charing and

Whitstable]. Richard Jnr [a blacksmith] and his wife Lydia [nee Fittall]

emigrated to Australia in 1882, and were followed the next year by two of

Richard's brothers -George and Lewis. An older brother Stephen stayed on in

Selling as the blacksmith. There was a connection to Eythorne which I am

unable to pinpoint in time, but Richard and Lydia named their Australian

farm, Eythorne after their old home.

Richard Snr was the son of 'George' a blacksmith and married Sarah Elizabeth

Gibbs in 1847.

It would be wonderful if there was some connection to your family tree. If

not, then I simply wish you well with your research.

If you let me know your interests [eg which part of Kent and time period] I

could keep them in mind as I find information.

Hi Deirdre

I'm Chris Waller and new to the Global group. i noticed your entry for

PILCHER in Kent recently.

I have a Catherine PILCHER bc 1703 who married John JARMAN 2 Oct 1734 in St

Peters Thanet.

I have yet to find her in any surrounding parish prior to 1734 but she spent

all her days in St Peters being buried in 1780 aged 77 years.

If there is any connection with your research I would love to hear from you.

Kind Regards

Chris (Mrs)

Hallo Deirdre.

There has been a lot about Pilchers on the list lately; you must have

noticed the several items about the school at Wingham.

I had noticed your entry in the MID, any anywhere anytime.

Are you doing a one-name study?

Where & when are your Pilchers?

Are you in contact with Keith Hayward?

My interest is principally in James the Wingham schoolmaster and his

descendants; I am still missing a daughter and a grandson of his.

Subject: Any info on Edith Rose Pilcher............ please

Dear Deirdre,

I was given your address by Bert Pilcher of London, Ontario. Unfortunately, he was unable to help me with my quest for info regarding my grandmother EDITH ROSE PILCHER who married my grandfather ROBERT WILLIAM OSBORNE around the turn of the century. Edith was born approx 1882 and hails from Whitstable, Kent and Robert was born 1878 and lived in Ramsgate, Kent and was engaged in trawler fishing off the Kent coast.
Interestingly, I have in my possession a 'certificate of competency' for a JAMES HERBERT PILCHER dated 1904, to skipper trawlers. I can only assume that JHP was a brother or father to Edith.
