Another fabulous drive from Franz Joseph along the west coast before turning inland and journey alongside two amazing lakes. Lake Wanaka, and Lake Hawea.

Lake Wanaka, and Lake Hawea

No-one can help but be impressed by the impressive views all the way along the 220 miles drive.

Just before reaching Queenstown, the end of Cadrona valley gives yet another opportunity to marvel at the view.

Queenstown, capital of high octane sports, and in my view has one of the most spectacular sights in NZ. Take a trip up the Skyline Gondola, and a breathtaking view of the Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu awaits.

Queenstown

Once again, pictures do not do justice to the panoramic view from the viewing platform.

Queenstown

Close to the Skyline Gondola base station, is the Kiwi and Birdlife park. If you don't see a kiwi in the wild (unlikely as they are rare, flightless and nocturnal birds), then this is the place to see them. Although in a darkened room, after a few minutes you get used to the light and can see them. They are very funny, about the size of small chickens. This little chap - a Pukeko - was outside.
