He married Elizabeth Kite? St Pauls, Bunhill Row, Finsbury, London, 24th October 1852. Elizabeth was born Middlesex c1830.

James Middleton and Elizabeth Kite? had the following children:

2 i. James (George?)² Middleton was born St George in the East, Middlesex c1854.

3 ii. Edwin (Joseph?) Middleton was born City of London c1857.

4 iii. John Frederick Middleton was born West London (St Barts?) 1859.

5 iv. Elizabeth Harriet Middleton was born 55 West Street, Smithfield, London 7th August 1861. Elizabeth died c1944 Farnborough, Hants, at 82 years of age. She married John Coombes St Mark's Clerkenwell, 17th December 1884. John was born North Tawton, Devon c1863. John was the son of William F Coombe(s) and Elizabeth Roach.
