Here's a copy of the e-mail or letter which would normally
have taken you to www.CL.Odam.org.
Dear <name>,
This e-mail contains an
offer of a website to advertise your Caravan Club CL. I am a member of the
Caravan Club, and user of CLs, but this offer has no connection with the Caravan
Club.
If you have any possible interest in this, please read on
immediately as there is an urgent deadline to meet if you want your website
shown in next year's Caravan Club Handbook - more details further
on.
Why would you want a website?
There are about 2500 CLs in
the Caravan Club Handbook and a small proportion of them already have websites.
When choosing a CL, I like to see pictures and a more detailed description than
that shown in the Handbook. I am therefore more likely to visit CLs with
websites - and I suspect many other members would do the same.
A website
could well give your CL an advantage over those who do not have
one.
What is the offer?
I will provide :
A simple one page website using your pictures
and text. Please look at www.CL.Odam.org for an
example of the type of page I have in mind.
A web address for your website, something like
www.WallerFarm.co.uk
A new e-mail address, something like info@WallerFarm.co.uk, which could be used on your website
and in the Caravan Club Handbook. This would automatically forward
e-mail to your existing address. You may use your existing address on the website
if you prefer.
What will it cost?
£30 per annum will cover
the supply of the web space and web address, initial construction of the website
and an annual update to the text to cover such things as price changes. At
present there is no VAT payable as I am not registered for VAT. I will not
ask for payment until you see your site on the internet.
What is the
urgent deadline?
The Caravan Club Handbook comes out in January, but
the deadline for changes is the end of July.
The important point is to
get your web address registered on the internet and the details e-mailed to the
Caravan Club before the end of July to make sure they appear in the next
Handbook. The actual website is not so urgent. I would create a temporary
website with your contact details as soon as the web address is registered. We
then have time to create the proper site before people start to look at
it.
What do you need to do now?
Pick a name for your
website. Please try to make it unique, remember that there are lots of 'Home
Farm's around the country so you might try 'HomeFarmMartlesham'. In your
case, I have checked and found that www.<name>.co.uk is currently available
Pick
an e-mail new address if you would like to use one, for example info@<name>.co.uk
Please look atwww.CL.Odam.org for details on how to design your page, what to put on it,
and how to send it to me.
E-mail the
details back to me as soon as possible. If you can't sort out the
information for the website straight away, then please send the web address and
e-mail address now (to meet the deadline) and send the website design
within the following four weeks.
Phone 01473 614456
What will I do
then?
I'll work through the applications in the order I receive them,
and set up the web addresses.
I will send you an e-mail with the details
for you to check and for you to forward to the Caravan Club - I'll give you the
e-mail address required.
If I can't meet the Caravan Club deadline for
next year's Handbook, due to delays in receiving your request or workload if
everyone wants a website, I'll let you know by e-mail. Even if you miss
the deadline, your website would probably still appear on the Caravan Club
website of CLs long before the next Handbook comes out.
I look forward to hearing from you, and
possibly visiting your CL if I like the look of it!
Ken Odam
