DRUNKEN IDIOTS SPOIL THE SUMMER SOLSTICE AT STONEHENGE, WHY HAS IT BECOME A MECCA FOR ALCOHOLICS ? BEING MERRY IS FINE BUT NOT OUT OF YOUR HEAD PLEASE. HAVE SOME RESPECT FOR THIS SACRED SITE AND SOME OF THE OTHERS WHO ARE HERE FOR SPIRITUAL REASONS AND NOT FOR A FIGHT.
The normal summer solstice sunset in the Stones was stripped off us this year, and what a glorious one it would have been to witness. Due to the stupid-ness of the English Heritage insisting the car park would open at 8PM And the Stones would open at 10pm. Better than last year but still not as good as previous years when I got some brilliant photos with the Sun still up.
Anyway once we did actually get in the car park and be locked in there for hours we were allowed to walk another 3 miles down the road to enter Stonehenge proper, great to start with but the numbers of people kept growing all night until the amount of drunken yobs numbered thousands?
The Glastonbury pop festival is mainly to blame for this being so close to the summer solstice. Many use Stonehenge as a meeting point to start their piss-up and get drugged up. Why they do this at all is madness, but to do it at Stonehenge is sacrilege and is very distressing to real Pagans who go there at that time to have a Religious experience. These alcoholics can do there thing 365 days of the year anywhere so why do it here at this time?
Thankfully there is normally NO violence and even the most drunken types behave themselves and do NOT spoil it. I have always found ALL peoples there very friendly and shows the common milk of human spirit is good left to our own devices.
The Druids did their thing with flaming poles at dawn, bit dangerous in such a crowd I think.
The future looks bleak for this our most Sacred Ancient Pagan building, a world heritage site.
The Ancestors are about to be tossed to one side after 10,000 YEARS of Pagan worship and respect, for the money god!
