The 88 Escorts

The immaculate Mk1 before its debut |
A new car was built for the 1978 season - another Mk 1 Escort but with a
stunning new livery to promote a new race number. The Ulster Hot Rods had
previously been allowed to register three digit race numbers but this changed
from 1978. Sticky chose the number 88 and came up with one of the most imaginative
and striking liveries ever seen on a race car - the Zebra stripes! Sticky
had some support from the Causeway Safari Park although I don't think their
name can be spotted on the car.
The new livery was a master stroke. All the children in the crowd automatically
had someone obvious to follow and track photographer Robin Clark sold
pictures of the car by the bucket load.

In action the Mk2 at Ballymena |
Ever keen to remain in front, Sticky upgraded his Mk1 Escort for a Mk2 ,
again in the distinctive Zebra livery.
