Counselling Training Résumé

I work independently full time as a counsellor, counselling supervisor and counselling trainer. I am a paid-up member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I trade under the name Authentic Counselling and Training.

As well as teaching counselling to professional level, I also teach

·               group-work

·               team-building

·               assertiveness

·               communication skills

·               stress management and relaxation

·               bereavement awareness

Over the past fifteen years, much of the counselling training I delivered was in the context of the Department of Adult & Continuing Education at the University of Durham. Lacking commitment to local outreach, the University decided to close the Department, and subsequently close the counselling training programme. In consequence, Alan Brice and I set up a person-centred counselling part-time training programme at the Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Newcastle, which included an Introduction to Counselling, Certificate in Counselling, Diploma in Counselling and a counselling supervision training course. Lacking commitment to local outreach, the University decided to close the Department, and subsequently close the counselling training programme. History really did repeat itself. In consequence, Alan Brice, Jo-Ann Ridley and I have set up a person-centred counselling part-time training programme independent of any institution of higher or further education. Our programme includes an Introduction to Counselling, a Certificate in Counselling, a Diploma in Counselling and a counselling supervision training course.

For many years I also taught in other parts of the University of Durham:

·               Community and Youthwork course

·               Certificate in Residential Work with Adolescents (in conjunction with Aycliffe Young People's Centre)

·               MA in Continuing Education

I have also taught at:

·               Department of Continuing Education at the University of Birmingham

·               New College, Durham (including the DipSW)

·               Derwentside College in Consett, Lanchester and Stanley (all in County Durham)

·               Gateshead College

·               Southlands College, Middlesbrough

I am eager for opportunities to teach nationally and beyond the UK.
