Cinema & Movies: Germany,
Poland, Denmark, Czech Republic

[Under development: 31 May 2005]

Germany
I first watched Die Blechtrommel (The Tin Drum;
based on the novel by Gunter Grass) in 1979. That theatrical version had
material cut from it, whereas the version shown some while later on UK
television was more complete. During the early 1980s I saw many film directed
by Fassbinder. Then in Edinburgh
I saw for the first time Mephisto (starring
Klaus Maria Brandauer, and based on the novel by
Klaus Mann), and subsequently recorded it from the television. I enjoy watching
my DVD of Lola Rennt
(Run, Lola, Run).
Poland
The Double Life of Veronique, director: Krysztof
Kieslowski. I have the ‘Three Colours’ trilogy.
Denmark
Babette’s Feast, director: Gabriel Axel.
Czech
Republic
Kolya.
