Cinema & Movies: Japan & China

[Under development: 31 May 2005]

I am appalled at how ignorant I am regarding Asia-Pacific cinema.

 Japan

Apart from having watched part of Tora! Tora!, I am not aware of having watched any Japanese films other than those of director Akira Kurosawa, such as

Rashamon (television & DVD) – a ground breaking movie that dramatically examines different versions of what should be the same reality.

The Seven Samurai (television) – the original Magnificent Seven but without the rousing music!

Ran (cinema & VHS) – Kurosawa’s sumptuous King Lear.

Dreams. (cinema & VHS) Kurosawa’s melancholy and disturbing farewell.
