Letter to Eve

You must have laughed

when you first saw him

uptight in his masculinity

trying to be bossy

without a figleaf.

Was that when he got violent?

- or was it later, when Knowledge

made him see

that he was the butt of the joke?

Anne Born said of the Company of Poets and their meetings "No subject is taboo." We decided to explore the truth of this assertion.

Some of what we wrote, in pursuit of truth, was, more properly, ‘bizarre.’ We wondered therefore about a two-worded title for our anthology, but decided to let the definition of what we had done s-t-r-e-t-c-h. After all, one purpose of language is to let familiar sounds mean what we choose.

Taboo is the Company of Poets’ fourth occasional volume. It arose from an urge to keep the collections flowing, and a desire to probe those parts at which other poets would not look.

The process of assembly has been painstaking. Allowing due time for the sediment of the writing to settle, a small band of editors (to whom I remain greatly indebted) met to select for inclusion in this anthology from a galaxy of talented poems. Not a poet in our Company is not, in some fashion, here represented.
