Chicago
From a
UK
viewpoint, Chicago belongs more to
the times of Al Capone and Elliot Ness than to the 21st century. Its
early 20th century architecture, however, marks it out as one of the
great cities of the world. Culturally, it is important because of the Institute
of Art, so lovingly featured in the
John Hughes movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off,
for Frank Lloyd Wright in Oak Park,
where Carl Rogers spent the early years of his life, for the Frank Gehry architecture and Anish Kapoor sculpture. I also enjoyed the bohemian ambience of
down-trodden North Halstead, a principal gay area of Chicago.
